Portraiture Class
Rembrandt
Self-Portrait in a Cap, Wide-eyed and Open-mouthed (1630)
When: Tuesday nights, 6-7pm beginning June 11, 2024
Explore how to draw faces and what makes a compelling portrait. To begin, we will understand the basic proportions of every human face and head. Then, we will look at the elements of the face and complete detailed drawings of the eye, nose, mouth, ears, head/ shoulders and hair. We will look at masterful examples of portraiture in the fine arts as reference support. We may draw and paint from live models at home (self, and family members, and pet/s) as well as study from reference photos. Supplies are listed below. It is recommended that you set aside time to practice drawing at least a couple of times a week. We will study the planes and angles of a head and face, practice modeling the light/ shadow and consider surface texture. We may also practice drawing heads at different points of view such as 3/4, profile, from above/ below.
